COURSE OF STUDY

The course of study for the Multimedia Business Academy students has been planned to offer students a highly technical, yet creative and well rounded academic program. Students are given options to pursue advanced placement (AP) and/or honors distinction in their English and Social Studies courses. All students will be on track to complete their UC/CSU A-G requirements to be prepared to enter the UC/CSU system upon graduation. Senior year students can choose between Graphic Arts and Digital Video Productions or take both.

All MBA students will create electronic portfolios and digital resumes showcasing their involvement in the Multimedia Business Academy. Advanced Placement courses and exams, as well as credit by exam articulation agreements are offered through Ventura County Community College District to get students ahead in college credits.

Academic Enrichment
Academic Coaching Program

MBA students will be "coached" by their teachers, counselor, tutors, and business partner/mentors throughout their four years to insure their success. Each five week grading period the coordinator and counselor will review the student's grades and determine whether a student's needs are being met. If a student needs assistance, a Plan of Action will be created with the student and parent to be reviewed after the following five week grading period.

Tutoring Program

Oxnard High School offers an after school tutoring program and many teachers open their doors at specific times to help students. These options are available to all OHS Students.

MBA tutors will be requested in as needed, but consistently during semester finals and to help with final MBA projects.

Community Service and Clubs

As part of the MBA program, with college acceptance and overall well being in mind, students will become involved in one or more community programs. Many students are currently involved in traveling sport teams, church groups, and other community activities and will be able to count those hours towards the required amount. Others can get community hours through many means, including Club participation. The academy team will provide activities as well.

It is important to note, simply belonging to a club does not stand out in college applications as much as being an officer of a club.

OHS Clubs related to Multimedia Business include:

+ Multimedia Business Club

+ Photography Club
+ Key Club
+ National Honor Society
+ Art Club
+ Drama Club

Paid and Nonpaid Internships

The goal of the National Academy Foundation (NAF) is to have 100% paid internship opportunities for all academy students. Regardless of the pay, all students will participate in an internship giving them valuable experience for their resumes and college applications.

Junior year, students will start preparing for internship application and interviewing for the summer going into senior year and for positions during the year.
