ABOUT

Oxnard High School Multimedia Business Academy has been created under the highly successful NAF (National Academy Foundation) model falling under the Information Technology theme.

The multimedia in business focus for the Multimedia Business Academy (MBA) was decided upon by a team of students, teachers, counselors, adminstrators, post secondary educators, and community members in the field to meet the needs of Oxnard High School's technical, creative, and entrepreneurial student.

Digital Media, digital arts, multimedia, etc. are all part of a new and emerging field of business. With the popularity of social media and mobile apps businesses realize a large focus of their marketing strategy rests in these areas accessed through the Internet. No longer are tv, radio, traditional mail, and billboard advertisements the main avenues to advertise.

Students in MBA have a unique opportunity to learn and master Adobe Creative Suite software programs. Dreamweaver for web design, Illustrator for vector logo creation and animation, InDesign for digital publishing, Photoshop for advertisement design, and Premiere for video editing. Adobe CS6 is a high end program not offered in many schools, but can now be accessed through Adobe Creative Cloud.

MBA students will be prepared to exit high school, completely prepared for college and career with a comprehenive electronic portfolio and digital resume showcasing their skills and abilities for employers and college advisors. They will also have Advanced Placement credits and other credits offered through articulation agreements with Ventura County Community College District.

MBA students will have also gained the soft skills employers and college admissions look for in such areas as:

  • leadership and team player skills

  • presentation skils

  • self motivation

  • proper digital and personal etiquette

  • social responsibility and community service

  • problem solving/troubleshooting abilities

Courses

Students in the MBA Academy will learn how to create traditional promotional pieces, but also learn to create websites and mobile apps, along with including social media in a marketing plan. To meet these goals, students will start off being introduced to the field of Information Technology in the 9th grade NAF Principles of Technology course. 10th grade year, MBA students will gain more skills and tools through the NAF Website Design course. Students will learn how businesses use websites to generate and organize their businesses and how mobile apps are created for customers to access products and services. Students will have the opportunity to work with a professional web designer, as well as, train to become ACA certified in Adobe for Dreamweaver.

11th grade year, MBA students will learn more about marketing through the Marketing course and have their first exposure to finance, through the NAF Principles of Finance course. Students will also take the Multimedia I (P) course to learn the other Adobe programs mentioned above. Students will leave the class with the ability to create a portfolio of multimedia promotional materials for any business or organization. Students will also have their digital resume prepared to apply for either a summer or afterschool internship opportunity. Every NAF student is expected to participate in one internship before graduation.

They will also have the option to take the NAF Graphic Arts course or NAF Digital Video Productions or both.
